Three Steps for Swab Testing at Home

Step 1: Preparing for the Test 

• Before starting the test, ensure you have a clean and well-lit area where you can comfortably perform the procedure.

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to maintain proper hygiene.

• Open the test kit, ensuring that all necessary components, including the swab and collection tube, are present and in good condition.

• Familiarize yourself with the instructions provided in the kit. Read them carefully to ensure a successful sample collection process.

Step 2: Collecting the Sample

• Take the swab provided in the kit and carefully remove it from its packaging without touching the tip with your fingers.

• Tilt your head slightly backward to allow easier access to the nostril.

• Gently insert the swab into one of your nostrils. Avoid pushing the swab too far back to prevent discomfort. Follow the specific instructions provided with the kit regarding the depth of insertion.

• Rotate the swab inside the nostril for approximately 10-15 seconds. This ensures sufficient collection of the sample.

• Carefully remove the swab from your nostril without touching any other surfaces.

• If required, repeat the same process with a new swab in the other nostril, following the instructions.

Step 3: Sample Processing and Packaging

• Once both nostrils have been swabbed, carefully place the swabs into the designated collection tube provided in the kit.

• Ensure the swab’s tip is fully submerged in the liquid within the tube.

• Break the swab handle at the indicated breakpoint, ensuring it remains inside the tube.

• Securely close the collection tube to prevent any leakage.

• Dispose of the used swabs following the proper guidelines and sanitise the area where the test was performed.

• Place the sealed collection tube back into the provided packaging or biohazard bag, depending on the instructions given in the kit.

• Follow the specific instructions in the kit for returning the sample to the laboratory for analysis.
