A recent October 2024 article by the Singapore Cancer Society looks at why some Singaporean women are hesitant to get screened for cervical cancer, despite it being preventable. Researchers found that fear, cultural beliefs, and lack of access to healthcare are some reasons for low participation. On the flip side, education and a strong healthcare system can encourage more women to get screened.
Personal and community barriers also has to be addressed to increase screening and help prevent cervical cancer in Singapore.
